Meet Our Principal

Matthew began teaching in the North of England, starting as a teacher of Physical Education, before moving into various positions of responsibility, such as: School Sports Co-ordinator, Head of Year, Head of Department and then into senior leadership as an Assistant Principal. In 2013, Matthew moved to Melbourne and continued teaching at St. Kevin’s College, as the Head of Education Support before moving to Templestowe College as an Assistant Principal before his appointment as Principal at SEDA College.

As a passionate sports fan and teacher, Matthew always held the belief that young people passionate about sport can have all their learning requirements met through a sport-based curriculum. This is what attracted him to SEDA College, the SEDA Model places a huge emphasis on the learning being hands on and applied in real community-based learning and in work and industry-based environments. The learning that happens at SEDA College is very real and visible; it enables all young people to develop, thrive and be genuinely prepared for life and employment or further study.

Perhaps the most exciting thing is the fact that there is no other education provision that can offer such an incredibly engaging program that can combine a young person’s passion for sport with the opportunity to develop industry related skills. The developed will help motivated young people to move into either employment or further study in many areas of sport and recreation and enable them to continue to explore and fulfil their passion and interest in this area. Young people often know what they would like to do, but unfortunately the education landscape does not provide such unique and focused provisions to allow them to follow their passions until they leave school. SEDA College allows this to happen for the senior secondary years and allows students to achieve qualifications in their area of passion and interest.

As the Principal of SEDA College Matthew strives to continue to improve the SEDA Model in collaboration with our partners across Australia and be the leader in sports education in South Australia, so that SEDA is continually meeting the current and future needs of our students in an ever evolving world.
